Two Lubrication Steps, Not One

Beyes' own instructions for the AirLight M800 split lubrication into two distinct procedures: chuck system lubrication and turbine (handpiece) lubrication. Treating these as interchangeable, or skipping one because the other was done, is one of the more common reprocessing mistakes on this handpiece.

After Every Patient

Remove the bur, grasping the handpiece so your thumb touches the autochuck end cap and pushing until a slight click is felt, then pulling the bur straight out
Never depress the end cap button while the bur is still rotating; this can activate the chuck mechanism improperly and cause excessive heat or loss of bur retention
Clean the LED light using isopropyl alcohol or another disinfecting agent with a super-soft cloth; never an ammonium-, chlorine-, or acid-based cleaner
Clean the external surface the same way, and dry thoroughly

Never do this

Never immerse the handpiece in a disinfection bath. Improper care and maintenance can lead to premature wear and failure.

Chuck System Lubrication

Fit the spray nozzle onto the spray can.
Grip the handpiece firmly.
Press the tip of the spray nozzle firmly into the chuck system.
Spray for about 1 second.
Push the button three times.

Turbine (Handpiece) Lubrication

Beyes specifies this lubrication at three points: after internal cleaning, prior to sterilization, and after 30 minutes of use or at least once daily.

Use only a high-quality lubricant such as Beyes Lube.
Ensure the correct application nozzle is connected to the plastic valve at the top of the spray can.
Firmly insert the application nozzle into the rear of the handpiece.
Spray for 2 to 3 seconds.
Wipe any excess lubricant from the handpiece.

After lubrication, connect the handpiece to tubing and run it for 20 to 30 seconds to purge remaining lubricant before use or sterilization.

If You Use a High-Temperature Washer-Disinfector

Beyes' documentation permits automated washing but sets specific conditions, validated with a Miele G7881 Vario TD system using neodisher MediClean detergent (0.3–0.5%), neodisher mieclear rinse (0.02–0.04%), and neodisher Z neutralizer (0.1–0.2%) if streaks or white spots appear afterward.

Always use a handpiece holder and rinse the inside thoroughly
Any medical agent left inside can corrode or clog the air or water pipe
Check that the handpiece, including its interior, is completely dry afterward; expel any remaining water with an air gun
Always lubricate the handpiece after washing

Two hard rules

Never clean with strong acidic or alkaline solutions, which can corrode the metal. Never leave the handpiece inside the high-temperature washer-disinfector after the cycle finishes.

Sterilization

Hard limits An unwrapped handpiece must be used immediately, or sterility is not maintained. Do not exceed your sterilizer's guidelines for load capacity. Use steam sterilization exclusively; never dry heat sterilize, ultrasonically clean, or expose the handpiece or swivel to chemical disinfection or cold sterilization.

Weekly Checks

Operating pressure: verify with a handpiece pressure gauge that pressure at the delivery head falls within 2.62 to 2.90 bar, and never allow it to exceed 3.52 bar.
Coupling condition: check QD or PD security rings and retention sleeves for smooth engagement and release.
Concentric rotation: run the handpiece outside the mouth and confirm smooth, quiet rotation before returning it to clinical use.
