Bien-Air publishes a dedicated Instructions for Use document for the CA 1:2.5L MS, and it is more detailed than a generic handpiece care sheet: nozzle wire cleaning, a two-attachment Aquacare sequence, a choice between manual and automatic disinfection, and a specific post-sterilization run-in step, all spelled out in sequence.

This handpiece's nozzles get their own cleaning step for a reason: a blocked spray path on a 100,000 rpm instrument fails faster than on a slower one.

Preparation and the Nozzle Wire-Cleaning Step

Disconnect the device from the coupling and remove the bur.
Clean under running water below 38°C.
Remove dirt and deposits from the nozzles using the Bien-Air cleaning wire.
Dry the nozzles with compressed air, then dry the rest of the instrument with a cloth.

DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP

Bien-Air explicitly warns: do not immerse in an ultrasonic cleaner at this stage
The nozzle wire-cleaning step is specific to this instrument among Bien-Air's surgical contra-angle range, and skipping it is one of the most common maintenance shortcuts we see reported

Internal Cleaning With Aquacare: The Two-Attachment Sequence

Shake the Aquacare canister before use.
First attachment: tip pointing down, protected with an absorbent cloth, press the Aquacare button for 2 seconds.
Second attachment: tip still pointing down and protected, press the Aquacare button for 1 second.

Internal and External Cleaning With Spraynet

Shake the Spraynet canister before use.
Apply the Spraynet attachment, tip pointing down and protected with an absorbent cloth; press for 1 second.
Clean the exterior of the contra-angle with a cloth soaked in Spraynet.

Two Valid Disinfection Routes: Manual or Automatic

MANUAL CLEANING/DISINFECTION

Dip the device in a tank with appropriate detergent; clean and disinfect with a soft brush, per the detergent maker's instructions (time, concentration, temperature)
Rinse interior and exterior with demineralised water below 38°C for 30 seconds
Spray the interior with Spraynet immediately to remove rinsing water and prevent internal blockage, then dry exterior surfaces with paper towels

AUTOMATIC CLEANING/DISINFECTION

Only for devices engraved with the washer-disinfector symbol
Use an approved washer-disinfector complying with ISO 15883-1 (Bien-Air names Miele G 7781/G 7881 or Steris Hamo LM-25 as examples)
Use a low-alkaline or enzymatic detergent, pH 6–9.5 (Bien-Air names Neodisher Mediclean as an example), on a cycle compatible with the detergent maker's guidance

Lubrication: Verify Cleanliness First, Then Apply Lubrifluid

Bien-Air's sequence has a built-in check before you lubricate: visually inspect the device to confirm it is clean, and clean again with a soft brush if it is not. Only then move to lubrication.

Remove the bur and place the device in a cloth to collect excess.
Select the appropriate end-piece and insert it in the rear of the handle.
Spray for 1 second, then clean excess oil from the exterior.

Sterilization: Class B Cycles and the Corrosion-Prevention Habit

Package correctly. Enclose the device and accessories in sterilization bags large enough for items to move, compliant with standards such as EN 868-5.
Cycle type. Steam, class B cycle per EN 13060 / ISO 17665-1, up to 135°C for 3 or 18 minutes depending on national requirements.
Remove promptly. Check that both the sterilizer and the water used are clean, and remove the device from the sterilization unit immediately after each cycle to reduce the risk of corrosion.

The post-sterilization run-in, and why it matters here specifically

After cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing, and before using the device, Bien-Air's instructions call for starting it up at moderate speed with a bur in the locking mechanism for 10 to 15 seconds to distribute and remove excess lubricant. On an instrument capable of 100,000 rpm, any leftover lubricant not cleared before use has more energy behind it than on a slower handpiece.

Storage: The Dry-Environment Rule for Infrequent Use

If the CA 1:2.5 will not be used for a prolonged period, Bien-Air's instructions require storing it in a dry environment and cleaning, lubricating, and sterilizing it again before reuse. There are no other special transport or storage conditions specified.

A Daily, Weekly and Monthly Rhythm, Plus a Printable Checklist

Bien-Air specifies the per-treatment routine above. The weekly and monthly items below build a practical clinic schedule around it.

Frequency	What to do
After every treatment	Full cycle: disconnect and de-bur, clean under water, wire-clean the nozzles, Aquacare, Spraynet, disinfect (manual or automatic), verify cleanliness, lubricate, sterilize, then run 10 to 15 seconds before use
End of day	Confirm every CA 1:2.5 used that day has been lubricated at least twice, and that stock of Aquacare, Spraynet, Lubrifluid, and cleaning wires is sufficient for tomorrow
Weekly (suggested)	Check the nozzles for consistent, even spray. Confirm the push-button or latch mechanism feels smooth.
Monthly (suggested)	Log approximate procedure count per handpiece. Review compressor and filtration maintenance, since Bien-Air links unfiltered hard water to early blockage of tubes, connectors, and spray cones.

What Surgical Teams Say About the CA 1:2.5 Routine

★★★★★

“We had been skipping the nozzle wire step for months without realizing it was specific to this handpiece. Adding it back in per Bien-Air's actual instructions fixed a spray problem we thought needed a repair.”

— Oral Surgery Assistant

★★★★★

“Printing the full sequence, including the disinfection choice, ended a debate our sterilization team had been having about which route was actually correct. Both are, it turns out.”

— Sterilization Coordinator

★★★★★

“The 10 to 15 second run-in after sterilizing is easy to forget, but skipping it used to leave a faint oily residue we never quite placed.”

— Practice Manager, periodontics clinic

CA 1:2.5 Maintenance FAQs: What Surgical Teams Ask Most

Why does the CA 1:2.5 need nozzle wire-cleaning when other Bien-Air handpieces don't?

Bien-Air's maintenance documentation calls this step out specifically for the CA 1:2.5, reflecting how this instrument's spray path is arranged compared with some of its siblings in the same surgical handpiece family.

Can I use either the manual or automatic disinfection route?

Yes. Bien-Air's Instructions for Use present both as valid, with automatic cleaning-disinfection reserved for devices engraved with the washer-disinfector symbol.
