KaVo EXPERTmatic E15 L Repair Guide: Understanding and Repairing the Green-Ring Reducer

Not every step in a restorative appointment wants more speed. The KaVo EXPERTmatic E15 L goes the other way: a 5.4:1 reduction contra-angle, marked with a green ring, that slows the bur down relative to the motor while keeping KaVo's 25,000 lux light at the working area.

Because reduction contra-angles are often used less frequently than red or blue rings, problems can go unnoticed until the moment you need one. This guide explains where the E15 L fits, what to look for, and how to approach repair.

Where the E15 L Sits in the EXPERTmatic Family

KaVo's EXPERTmatic page uses colored rings to show transmission. Here is how the three LUX models compare, using KaVo's official specifications:

Model	Ring Color	Transmission	Bur	Mat. No.
E25 L	Red	1:5 (speed increasing)	FG, 1.6 mm	1.007.5550
E20 L	Blue	1:1	Contra-angle, 2.35 mm	1.007.5540
E15 L	Green	5.4:1 (reducing)	Contra-angle, 2.35 mm	1.007.5530

All three carry a glass rod light conductor rated at up to 25,000 lux. The non-light version of the E15 is the E15 C (1.007.5531).

Reinforced clamping system for 2.35 mm contra-angle burs.
Internally guided, separate cooling media.
25,000 lux glass rod light conductor.

Signs Your E15 L Needs Attention

Grinding, roughness, or a new sound when it runs
A bur that does not lock or release cleanly
Heat at the head
Dim or missing light
Weak spray

Why Infrequently Used Instruments Fail Differently

An instrument that sits in a drawer between uses still needs the same full reprocessing every time it is used. Residue left inside, or lubrication skipped because "it barely got used," can catch up with it. Treat the E15 L to the same care routine as your daily instruments.

Warranty and Factory Options

KaVo lists a 24-month warranty for the EXPERTmatic series and offers KaVo REPAIR. Check warranty status before arranging outside service.

The Repair.Dental Evaluation Process

Confirm the model: E15 L (light) or E15 C (no light).
Rule out the motor and coupling.
Test clamping with a correct 2.35 mm bur.
Run it to assess smoothness, heat, and spray.
Inspect the light path.
Deliver a plain-language estimate before work begins.

Prevention Checklist

Avoid descaling agents, which KaVo's care tips warn may cause corrosion.
Replace O-rings as a full set with KaVo-recommended products.
Respect KaVo's 135°C (275°F) ceiling at every sterilizer cycle.
