KaVo EXPERTmatic E61 C Care & Maintenance: Keeping the EVA Stroke Smooth and Precise

The KaVo EXPERTmatic E61 C moves differently from a rotary contra-angle, but it still needs the same disciplined reprocessing. Its stroke, detent locking, and prep control head all depend on being clean and lubricated.

This guide adapts KaVo's official care guidance to the E61 C's unique design.

A Different Motion, the Same Care Discipline

KaVo lists the E61 C with a 0.8 mm buffered stroke, 36 detent settings, an integrated prep control head, and internally guided, separate cooling media. Like the rest of the EXPERTmatic series, KaVo lists it as thermo-disinfectable and sterilizable up to 135°C (275°F).

Paying Attention to the Detent Area

Thirty-six precise locking positions only work if the locking area is clean. During external cleaning, give the head extra time and attention, and inspect it before every case for residue that could prevent the file from seating in its detent.

Lubricating a Stroke Mechanism

The E61 C converts motor rotation into a 0.8 mm buffered stroke. That mechanism benefits from consistent lubrication with KaVo Spray or automated care in the QUATTROcare PLUS after every reprocessing cycle.

Cooling Channel Care

KaVo's care tips explain that hard water can clog channels. Use KaVo's nozzle needles, never a root canal needle, and never use descaling agents.

Stroke feeling stiff even after care? Let Repair.Dental check it.

The Coupling

Like every INTRAmatic instrument, the E61 C relies on healthy O-rings for a tight connection. Replace them as a set when worn, with KaVo-recommended oils only.

Mistakes to Avoid

Using files or strips not listed by KaVo for the EVA system.

Leaving residue in the detent area.

Treating the head with descaling agents, which KaVo links to corrosion.

Sterilizing on a program that exceeds 135°C (275°F).

EVA Contra-Angle Care FAQs

Does the E61 C need different care from rotary contra-angles?

It follows the same KaVo preparation stages, with extra attention to keeping the stroke mechanism and detent area clean and lubricated.

Why does the detent area need extra cleaning?

Residue there can stop the file from locking in one of the 36 detent positions KaVo lists.
