KaVo EXPERTmatic E61 C EVA Repair Guide: Understanding KaVo's Stroke-Driven Contra-Angle

The KaVo EXPERTmatic E61 C differs from every other instrument in the EXPERTmatic family. Instead of spinning a bur, it drives a short, controlled stroke for the EVA system, used with interproximal files and strips.

Because it works so differently, its failures look different too. This guide explains how it works, what to watch for, and how to approach a repair

What Makes the E61 C Different

According to KaVo's official EXPERTmatic page, the E61 C (Mat. no. 1.008.4999) is a 2.7:1 green prophylaxis contra-angle with internally guided, separate cooling media and an integrated prepcontrol head. It has a buffered 0.8 mm stroke and locks the inserted instrument precisely through 36 detent settings.

KaVo lists it for the EVA system, for use with Proxoshape, Rootshape, Margin Shaper, Bevelshape and Cavishape files, as well as OrthoStrips made by Intensiv.

Symptoms That Need a Technician

A stroke that feels weak, harsh, or uneven

An inserted file that will not lock in a detent position

	New noise, roughness, or heat

Cooling that stays weak after cleaning

Why Detents Matter

KaVo's 36 detent settings let the clinician position the EVA file precisely. If the instrument slips between positions, control is lost. That is a reason to stop using it until it has been checked.

Warranty and KaVo REPAIR

As part of the EXPERTmatic series, the E61 C falls under KaVo's listed 24-month warranty. For a specialty instrument, factory service through KaVo REPAIR is worth checking first if it is still covered.

Our E61 C Evaluation

Confirm it is the E61 C (1.008.4999) for the EVA system.

Check the stroke under light load.

Test detent locking across positions with a compatible EVA file.

	Check cooling and coupling.

Explain findings before any work begins.

A specialist instrument deserves a careful bench. Send your E61 C to Repair.Dental for an evaluation built around how it actually works.

Using the Right EVA Accessories

KaVo lists the E61 C for a specific set of Intensiv files and strips. Using other accessories can stress the detent and stroke mechanism in ways the instrument was not designed for. If your team is unsure which files are approved, keep KaVo's list with the instrument.
