What Makes the L3 Y Unique

KaVo describes a force-absorbing adjustment to the torsional force resistance, thanks to the head's radial, free rotatability of 360°. Combined with its 0.4 mm stroke, it is a very different instrument from a rotating endo head.

Warning Signs for Each Head

L3 Y: the 0.4 mm stroke feels weak or uneven, or free rotation becomes stiff.

L62: rotation feels rough, or a 2.35 mm instrument slips.

Both: noise or heat that follows the head to another shank.

Shanks KaVo Recommends

KaVo names the MASTERmatic M29 L as the recommended shank for the L3 Y, and lists its endodontic heads as ideal with the M29 L and M20 L.

Repair or Replace?

KaVo states that after several years of use, the head should be replaced whereas the contra-angle handpiece can still be used. KaVo lists a 2-year warranty through KaVo REPAIR.

How Repair.Dental Evaluates These Heads

Confirm which head from its material number.

	Test the stroke (L3 Y) or rotation (L62) on a known-good shank.

Check instrument grip with the correct size.

Recommend repair or replacement with clear costs.

L3 Y and L62 Repair Questions

How does the L3 Y move?

With an up and down stroke of 0.4 mm and free 360° rotation, according to KaVo.

What ratio is the L62?

KaVo lists a 10:1 reduction.
