KaVo INTRA Head L80 Maintenance Guide: Keeping an FG Chuck Gripping True

The KaVo INTRA head L80 spends its working life finishing, forming and pre-polishing, often with residue from composite and filling materials. Its FG chuck is what makes it special, so it is what your care routine should protect.

Here is how to do that, using KaVo's official guidance.

At a glance: KaVo lists INTRA heads as thermo-disinfectable and sterilizable up to 135°C, with an optimised design for easy maintenance.

Protect the FG Chuck First

Unlike latch-type heads, the L80 holds FG turbine burs with a 1.6 mm shank in a push-button chuck, according to KaVo. Keeping that chuck clean and lubricated is what keeps burs gripping true during occlusal finishing.

Use KaVo Care Products

Choose from KaVo Spray, CLEANspray and DRYspray for alcohol-free internal cleaning and drying, or the QUATTROcare PLUS, which KaVo says includes a collet program for reliable holding power.

Pro tip: Store FG burs for the L80 separately from contra-angle burs so the right type is always at hand.

Separate the Head From the Shank

Use KaVo's quick-action safety retention collar to remove the L80 before cleaning. That way both the head and the shank get proper attention.

Store the L80 the Right Way
