KaVo INTRA Mini Head L52 Repair Guide: Small Head, Big Responsibility

Some of the hardest preparations happen in the smallest spaces: a child's mouth, a tight posterior area, a patient who cannot open wide. That is where the KaVo INTRA Mini head L52 earns its place.

Its compact size is the whole point, and it is also why a worn L52 is worth taking seriously.

At a glance: 1:1 transmission · miniature 16 mm contra-angle burs, Ø 2.35 mm · push-button chuck · max. 40,000 rpm · Mat. no. 1.008.1825.

Built for Visibility Where Space Runs Out

KaVo's official INTRA heads page describes the L52 as giving the best viewing conditions when removing carious material, and as ideal for treatment in confined spaces or pediatric treatment. It is designed for miniature contra-angle burs with a 16 mm length and a 2.35 mm shank.

Spot the Signs That Point to Repair

Warning sign: A 16 mm miniature bur that slips or does not release cleanly

Warning sign: Roughness or noise that follows the head onto another shank

Warning sign: Heat at the head during normal use

Warning sign: A head that is hard to remove from or attach to the shank

Pro tip: Fit a spare head to the same shank. If the problem disappears, the L52 is the cause; if it stays, look at the shank or motor.

Decide Between Repair and a New Head

KaVo says that after several years of use, an INTRA head should be replaced while the contra-angle handpiece can keep working. For a newer L52, repair may be worthwhile. For an older one, a replacement head can be the better value.

Check Your Warranty First

KaVo lists a 2-year warranty for INTRA heads. A newer L52 may qualify for KaVo REPAIR.

Use the Right Name When Ordering in the US

On KaVo's US site, the L52 is listed as the "INTRA mini latch head L52." Quote the material number 1.008.1825 to avoid mix-ups.
