KaVo MASTERmatic M20 L Maintenance: Caring for a Shank and Its Interchangeable Heads

When a contra-angle has interchangeable heads, maintenance becomes a two-part job: the shank and every head that goes on it. The KaVo MASTERmatic M20 L is one of those instruments.

This guide shows how to look after both.

Two Parts, One Routine

In KaVo's MASTERmatic flyer, the M20 L appears as a shank for INTRA LUX heads. Each head and the shank should go through KaVo's full preparation process every time they are used.

Changing Heads Without Causing Wear

KaVo's INTRA LUX heads page describes a quick-action safety retention collar for simple, fast head changes. Keep the connection area clean, and make sure each head is fully engaged before use.

Spray and Filter

KaVo's care tips explain that a dirty filter reduces spray quality and that hard water can clog channels. Change the exchangeable filter when spray weakens and clean nozzles with KaVo's dedicated needles.

Spray or light fading on your M20 L? Let Repair.Dental check the shank.

Lubrication

Lubricate with KaVo Spray or the QUATTROcare PLUS, which KaVo says includes a collet program for reliable bur holding power.

O-Rings

Replace worn O-rings as a full set by hand with KaVo-recommended oils, and attach the M20 L straight with a slight twist.

Mistakes to Avoid

Reprocessing the shank but forgetting spare heads.

Forcing a head that is not fully engaged.

Leaving a dirty filter in place.

	Using descaling agents.

	Sterilizing above 135°C.

M20 L Care FAQs

Do spare heads need reprocessing too?

Yes. Every head used on a patient goes through the full process.

How do I change an INTRA LUX head?

KaVo describes a quick-action safety retention collar. Follow the instructions supplied with your heads.
