KaVo MASTERmatic M45 L Maintenance: Keeping CoolHead Cool and the Spray on Target

KaVo built the MASTERmatic M45 L with CoolHead technology and an optimized 3-port spray, which it says adds patient safety. Those features only work if the spray path stays clear.

This care guide is centered on keeping the M45 L's cooling system working as KaVo intended.

Cooling Is the M45 L's Superpower

KaVo's MASTERmatic page says CoolHead technology and optimized spray water ensure even greater patient safety. Treat the spray system as the most important part of your M45 L routine.

Clearing the Spray Path the Right Way

KaVo's care tips explain that hard water clogs channels, a dirty filter reduces spray, and too little spray risks overheating damage. Use dedicated nozzle needles, never a root canal needle, and never descaling agents.

Cooling not what it should be? Ask Repair.Dental to check it before it affects a patient.

Caring for Long-Bur Work

KaVo lists compatibility with bur lengths up to 25 mm. Longer burs put more leverage on the chuck, so keep it lubricated with KaVo Spray or the QUATTROcare PLUS, which includes a collet program.

KaVo's Reprocessing Order

KaVo's preparation video covers external and internal cleaning, internal disinfection, manual maintenance, and sterilization, in that order. KaVo lists the MASTERmatic series as thermo-disinfectable.

O-Ring Care

Change the full O-ring set by hand when worn, using KaVo-recommended oils only, and attach the M45 L straight with a slight twist.

Mistakes That Undermine CoolHead

	Ignoring a weak spray port.

	Delaying a filter change.

Using descaling agents to "clean" the channels.

	Skipping lubrication after long-bur work.

	Sterilizing above 135°C.
