NSK nano Series Maintenance

Small Handpiece, Serious Maintenance

The compact design of the NSK nano Series doesn't mean it can be treated casually. Like other precision dental contra-angles, it needs consistent cleaning, lubrication, reprocessing and careful handling. The best maintenance routine is one your team performs every time, rather than one remembered only when the handpiece develops a fault. Always follow the current NSK instructions for the exact nano model.

The 5-Part nano Care Routine

Instead of treating maintenance as one long procedure, think of it as five checkpoints:

1. Remove

Remove the bur after use.

2. Clean

Follow the manufacturer's approved cleaning process.

3. Lubricate

Apply the appropriate lubricant using the recommended procedure.

4. Reprocess

Follow the correct sterilization procedure.

5. Inspect

Check the handpiece before returning it to service. This simple sequence helps make maintenance consistent.

Don't Forget the Chuck

The chuck is one of the areas that deserves regular attention.

Check for:

	Debris

	Difficult bur insertion

	Unusual release

	Changes in retention

	Abnormal button operation, where applicable

Never force the mechanism to compensate for a developing fault.

Lubrication Should Be Deliberate

More lubricant doesn't necessarily mean better lubrication. Use the product and application method specified by NSK for your particular nano model. Incorrect lubrication can create problems of its own, so avoid substituting random oils or using an improvised procedure.

Pay Attention to the Head

The head is exposed to clinical contamination and deserves careful cleaning.

During routine maintenance, inspect:

Head area

Bur opening

Chuck

Spray outlets

External surfaces

Don't use sharp tools or excessive force unless the manufacturer specifically permits the method.

Sterilization Comes After Proper Preparation

Sterilization is one part of the reprocessing chain.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for:

	Cleaning

	Lubrication

	Packaging

	Sterilization

	Drying

	Storage

Use the current NSK documentation for your specific nano model rather than relying on a generic handpiece procedure.

The “First Appointment” Check

Before using the nano Series at the start of the day, take a moment to notice its baseline condition.

Sound: normal?

Vibration: normal?

Chuck: secure?

Spray: functioning?

Body: undamaged?

Knowing how your handpiece normally feels makes it much easier to recognize a developing problem.

Storage Matters Too

After reprocessing, protect the handpiece from unnecessary impact.

Avoid placing it somewhere it can:

	Fall

	Be knocked by instruments

	Become contaminated again

	Be stored under pressure

A precision instrument should remain protected between uses.

Maintenance Cannot Repair Wear

Good care can reduce avoidable problems.

It cannot restore a worn internal component.

If your nano Series remains noisy, vibrates excessively, becomes unusually hot or develops a chuck problem despite correct maintenance, it is time for professional assessment.
