SIROTorque & SIRONiTi Maintenance: A Care Plan for a Legacy Sirona Endo Setup

When equipment is no longer manufactured, maintenance stops being a nice-to-have. It becomes your best insurance policy. Dentsply Sirona lists the SIROTorque L / L+ motor system as discontinued, so every week of careful upkeep is a week you are not hunting for scarce parts.

This guide pulls together Sirona's published care instructions for the SIROTorque L+ and the T1 LINE family that includes SIRONiTi contra-angles, and turns them into a routine your team can follow without guesswork.

Why a Two-Part System Needs a Two-Part Care Plan

SIROTorque and SIRONiTi are different products. The SIROTorque L / L+ is an electric motor system that turns treatment center air into electrical power. SIRONiTi is a torque-limiting endodontic contra-angle that rides on a motor. Each needs its own care, and skipping either one can make the other look faulty.

Know Your Lineup Before You Clean Anything

Take two minutes to record exactly what you own. It makes every future service call faster.

Motor system: SIROTorque L or L+, and the motor type (SL, EL, BL, or BL ISO).
Contra-angle: SIRONiTi, SIRONiTi APEX, SIRONiTi Air+ or SIRONiTi Air+ APEX.
Accessories: Torque cards and any insulation sleeves used with APEX versions.

After Every Patient: SIROTorque Housing Care

The SIROTorque L+ operating instructions say the outer housing surfaces must be cleaned and disinfected after each patient, and during treatment if deposits are visible.

Moisten a clean, lint-free cloth with a suitable disinfectant.
Wipe all outer surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas.
Check that all visible dirt and residue are gone.
Let the surfaces air-dry. Sirona specifically says not to wipe them dry.

Disinfectant Do's and Don'ts for the SIROTorque Housing

Choosing the wrong disinfectant can damage housings and seals. Here is what the SIROTorque L+ instructions allow and prohibit:

Category	Sirona Guidance	Practical Meaning
CAVICIDE / CAVIWIPES	Named as suitable	Wipe on, let air-dry
Alcohol / ethanol under 50%	Allowed	Check concentration on the label
Glutaraldehyde over 0.019%	Allowed	Follow the product's contact time
Phenol, alcohols over 50%, peracetic acid	Do not use	Keep these products away from the unit
Peroxide, chlorine or iodine-releasing agents	Do not use	Avoid oxygen-, chlorine- and iodine-splitting disinfectants

The Weekly Spray Line Disinfection Routine

The SIROTorque L+ and its motor supply hose carry spray water from the treatment center to the handpiece, but the unit has no self-cleaning or self-disinfecting system. Sirona says to clean and disinfect these spray lines together with the treatment center once a week using Dentosept P:

Flush the SIROTorque L+ with Dentosept P for at least 20 seconds.
Switch the treatment center and the SIROTorque L+ off for 24 hours.
Flush with water for at least 30 seconds.

The SIROTorque L+ and its BL or BL ISO motor must stay connected to the treatment center's spray supply throughout. A Friday-evening routine works well for many practices.

Caring for the SIRONiTi Contra-Angle

Dentsply Sirona lists SiroNiTi Apex and SiroNiTi Air Plus Apex within its T1 Line family. Sirona's T1 LINE operating instructions call for spraying the mechanics with Sirona T1 Spray only, at least daily at noon and in the evening, before sterilization and after thermal disinfection. Always confirm these steps against the operating instructions supplied with your specific SIRONiTi.

Sterilization

SIRONiTi contra-angles are steam sterilizable. Product data for the range cites autoclave temperatures of 134°C to 135°C, so use the cycle given in your instrument's instructions. For APEX versions used with insulation sleeves, sterilize the sleeve after treatment as well.

Protect the Torque Mechanism

Dentsply Sirona describes the gold-plated magnetic coupling as wear-free, but the preselect ring and chuck are moving parts. Turn the ring deliberately to each setting rather than forcing it, and keep debris away from the chuck.

Seals, Gaskets and Hoses: Small Parts, Big Consequences

The SIROTorque L+ instructions ask you to check the gasket at the 4-hole high-speed hose connection regularly and replace it if needed. They also recommend checking all gaskets for cuts, tears, notches, or wear and replacing damaged ones promptly.

Inspect gaskets at every hose connection.
Look along the motor hose for kinks, cracks or crushed sections.
Make sure the motor is properly installed on its hose. A poor connection can trigger an F5 or F12 error.

Torque CARDs and Settings: Protecting Your Files Too

Part of looking after a SIRONiTi is using it correctly. Sirona supplies Torque CARDs that recommend the torque level for each file in a given file system. Keep the cards with the contra-angle, match the preselect ring to the file you are using, and remember that SIRONiTi works with standard NiTi files with a 2.35 mm shank.

Safe Operating Habits That Extend Equipment Life

The SIROTorque L+ manual includes several cautions that protect both patients and equipment:

Do not adjust speed while the instrument is in the patient's mouth.
Before switching to counterclockwise rotation, confirm the attached contra-angle and insert can run that way. Prophylaxis contra-angles must run clockwise only.
Check before every start that the motor has not been left in reverse. The unit resets to clockwise each time it is switched off and on.
Use only instruments suitable for the selected speed range, and take extra care during endodontic procedures or near the pulp.

Your Monthly Check-In Checklist

All Torque CARDs are present and match the files you stock.
The SIRONiTi preselect ring moves cleanly between all five levels.
Files lock firmly in the push-button chuck.
No recurring error codes have appeared on the SIROTorque display.
The weekly spray line disinfection log is up to date.

Maintenance Mistakes That Shorten Equipment Life

Using phenol-based or high-alcohol disinfectants on the SIROTorque housing.
Wiping disinfected surfaces dry instead of letting them air-dry.
Skipping the weekly spray line disinfection.
Using a non-Sirona spray where Sirona T1 Spray is specified.
Ignoring worn gaskets until they leak.
Running a contra-angle in reverse without confirming it is allowed.

SIROTorque & SIRONiTi Maintenance FAQs

How often should I disinfect the SIROTorque spray lines?

Sirona recommends once a week with Dentosept P, done together with the treatment center: flush for at least 20 seconds, leave off for 24 hours, then flush with water for at least 30 seconds.

Can I use CAVICIDE on the SIROTorque L+?

Yes. The operating instructions name CAVICIDE and CAVIWIPES as suitable for cleaning and disinfecting the housing.
