SIROTorque & SIRONiTi Repair Guide: Keeping a Legacy Sirona Endo Setup Running

Plenty of practices still run root canals on a Sirona setup that has quietly done its job for years: a SIROTorque L or L+ electric motor system driving a SIRONiTi torque-limiting contra-angle. When something in that chain stops working, the first challenge is figuring out which part is actually at fault. The second is knowing what your options are for equipment the manufacturer no longer supports.

Endo Day Interrupted?

Tell us whether it is the motor, the hose, or the contra-angle acting up, and we will map the fastest route back to treatment.

Two Sirona Names, One Endo Workflow: What You Actually Own

These two names often get mentioned together, but they are different products doing different jobs:

SIROTorque L / L+ is the motor system: a supply and control unit, hoses, and an electric micromotor that powers your attachments.
SIRONiTi is the attachment: an endodontic contra-angle that holds the NiTi file and limits the torque reaching it.

Think of SIROTorque as the engine and SIRONiTi as the specialised gearbox at the end of it. A problem in one can look like a problem in the other, which is why diagnosis matters so much here.

Meet the SIROTorque L and L+: The Motor System

According to Sirona's FDA 510(k) summary for the SIROTorque L, the system converts pneumatic output from a dental treatment center into electrical energy to operate electrically driven handpieces. It is made up of a supply and control unit, supply hoses, connection cables, a transformer, and electric micromotors.

When Sirona launched the brushless SIROTorque L+, it stated that CLASSIC attachments fit the SIROTorque L SL and L+ BL motors, while LINE and REVO attachments fit the EL, SL ISO and BL ISO motors. The SIROTorque L+ operating instructions show motor speed adjustable from 90 to 40,000 rpm, a gear ratio setting, an Endo key, and a reverse function.

Meet SIRONiTi: The Torque-Limiting Endo Contra-Angle

SIRONiTi contra-angles were designed so root canal preparation could be done straight from the treatment center motor, without a separate bench-top endo unit. Dentsply Sirona currently lists the SiroNiTi Apex and SiroNiTi Air Plus Apex within its T1 Line family. The SIRONiTi line includes:

SIRONiTi / SIRONiTi APEX: 115:1 reduction, about 350 rpm at a 40,000 rpm motor speed, for electric motors.
SIRONiTi Air+ / Air+ APEX: 66:1 reduction, up to 600 rpm at a 40,000 rpm motor speed, designed for air motors and also usable on electric motors.

All versions share five torque levels set with a preselect ring on the head, Torque CARDs that recommend settings for each file system, and a gold-plated magnetic coupling. When the set torque is reached, that coupling releases with a "retro-rotation" action that keeps the file from jamming in the canal. The APEX versions add a gold clip for connecting many electronic apex locators directly.

The Hard Truth: SIROTorque Is Officially Discontinued

This is the single most important fact for any repair decision. Dentsply Sirona's discontinued products page lists Sirotorque L / Sirotorque L+ under motor preparation systems, noting these parts and options are no longer manufactured, and no troubleshooting support is available.

What that means in practice:

Factory replacement boards, motors, and hoses may be hard or impossible to source new.
Repairs depend on remaining stock, compatible parts, and component-level work, so every job should start with an honest assessment.
It is smart to plan a replacement path before the system fails completely, rather than during a busy endo week.

SIRONiTi is a different story. Dentsply Sirona still presents SiroNiTi Apex and SiroNiTi Air Plus Apex in its T1 Line range, so treat the motor system and the contra-angle as two separate repair decisions.

Where SIROTorque Systems Run Into Trouble

The SIROTorque L+ operating instructions include error codes shown on the "Bur Speed" display. They are excellent clues for a technician:

Motor and Hose Faults

F5 means no motor is connected or the motor or motor hose is defective. F11 indicates the short-circuit protection has activated, F12 indicates a weak electrical connection between the motherboard and motor, and F13 indicates a defective position detection in the motor. If F11 to F14 return after a restart and installation check, Sirona's instructions say to contact a service engineer.

Light Circuit Faults

F14 signals overcurrent in the motor lamp circuit, meaning the lamp or motor is defective.

Control Electronics

F2 is an EEPROM error, and the remedy listed is simply to call a service engineer.

Seals and Gaskets

The manual also asks users to check the gasket at the 4-hole high-speed hose connection and to replace any gasket showing cuts, tears, notches or wear.

Where SIRONiTi Contra-Angles Show Wear

Dentsply Sirona describes the magnetic coupling as wear-free, so problems with a SIRONiTi usually show up elsewhere. Have it evaluated if you notice:

Files that do not lock securely in the push-button chuck
A torque preselect ring that is stiff, loose, or will not stay on a setting
Torque release that feels inconsistent with the Torque CARD setting you selected
Unusual noise, roughness, or heat at the head during use
On APEX versions, an apex locator that reads unreliably through the gold clip

Repair, Replace or Retire? A Component-by-Component View

Use this table to frame the conversation with your technician.

Component	Warning Sign	What It Points To	Realistic Path
SIROTorque control unit	F2 EEPROM error, display faults	Control electronics	Component-level repair if feasible; plan replacement
BL / BL ISO motor	F13, F14, rough running	Motor or motor lamp circuit	Repair if parts available, otherwise replace motor system
Motor hose	F5, F12, intermittent stops	Hose wiring or connection	Test and repair or source compatible hose
Hose gaskets	Leaks at connections	Worn seals	Replace gaskets
SIRONiTi contra-angle	Chuck slip, ring issues, noise	Head or mechanism wear	Bench evaluation, repair or replace contra-angle

How Technicians Separate Motor, Hose and Contra-Angle Faults

Read the code. The error on the Bur Speed display narrows the search immediately.
Swap the attachment. Run the motor with a different, known good contra-angle. If the problem stays, the fault is in the motor system.
Check the connection chain. Confirm the motor is properly installed on its hose and the hose is seated, since F5 and F12 point to these links.
Test the contra-angle on its own terms. Check chuck retention, ring function, and torque release at each preselect level against the Torque CARD.
Decide with the full picture. Because SIROTorque support has ended, the estimate should weigh repair cost against a modern replacement.

Our Repair Process for Legacy Sirona Endo Equipment

Start the conversation. Use our contact page or call 1-855-533-3399. Share the error code, your motor type (BL, BL ISO, SL, or EL), and your SIRONiTi model.
Send the right parts. Ship the contra-angle cleaned and sterilized. Include the motor and hose if the issue happens with every attachment.
Honest evaluation. A technician tests each component and checks what parts can realistically be sourced.
Clear options. You get a plain-language estimate covering repair, partial replacement, or retirement.
Repair and testing. Approved work is completed and function-tested before return.

Planning Ahead When Parts Get Scarce

Legacy equipment rewards a little foresight:

Keep a record of your motor type, hose type and every SIRONiTi model in the practice.
Note any error codes and when they appear, so a technician can spot patterns.
Keep your SIRONiTi Torque CARDs with the contra-angle.
Budget for a replacement motor system before you need one.

SIROTorque & SIRONiTi Repair FAQs

Is the SIROTorque L+ still supported by Dentsply Sirona?

No. Dentsply Sirona lists Sirotorque L / Sirotorque L+ as discontinued, with parts and options no longer manufactured and no troubleshooting support available.

Can a SIROTorque system still be repaired?

Often, yes, depending on the fault and whether suitable parts can be sourced. A technician should evaluate it and give you an honest repair-versus-replace recommendation.
