StarSimplicity earns its long service life the same way any lubricated handpiece does through a care routine that respects how the turbine is actually built. There's one instruction in DENTALEZ's manual that matters more than any other for this specific handpiece, and it's not obvious unless you've read it. Everything below comes from DENTALEZ's own published guidance.

Know Your Configuration Before You Start

StarSimplicity comes in two back-end styles and two chuck styles, and care differs slightly by which you have.

Model	Back End	Chuck Options
Simplicity FX	Fixed 4-line (Part 265634)	Steel bearing autochuck or manual chuck
Simplicity SW	Swivel (Part 265633)	Steel bearing autochuck or manual chuck

VERIFIED THE ONE RULE THAT MATTERS MOST

The StarSimplicity turbine contains bearings that are lubricated and sealed at the factory to keep dirt out. DENTALEZ's instructions are direct: never clean it ultrasonically or immerse it in a solvent that would dilute the lubricant. This single instruction protects more turbine life than any other single habit.

Daily Care

Release the end cap button and apply light inward force to the bur to remove it before cleaning.
Remove debris from external surfaces using a small brush and isopropyl alcohol this applies to the housing exterior, not the internal turbine.
Clean the optical surface (fiber-optic connection point) with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol to keep illumination consistent.
Never clean the turbine ultrasonically, and never immerse it in solvent this is the rule that protects the sealed, lubricated bearings.

Weekly Care

Confirm air and water supply filtration is holding at the DENTALEZ-specified 25 microns filtration drift is a common, preventable cause of water spray and cooling issues.
Confirm water supply is properly softened and deionized, as specified in DENTALEZ's instructions.
Check bur retention on both autochuck and manual chuck versions to catch early wear before it becomes a mid-procedure issue.

Sterilization

Star handpieces as a line follow steam sterilization as the standard method, with washer-disinfectors generally not recommended for turbine-equipped handpieces. Always confirm the specific cycle times and temperatures listed in your StarSimplicity manual and match them to your sterilizer's own guidelines, since exact parameters can be sterilizer-dependent.

Before sterilizing: remove the bur, clean external surfaces as above, and bag the handpiece individually.
After sterilizing: allow the handpiece to dry and cool fully inside its sealed bag before returning it to use.
Never: run the handpiece under water to cool it faster, and never clean the turbine ultrasonically as part of a sterilization routine.

Monthly & Periodic Care

1	Inspect the air pressure setting. Use a StarDental air pressure gauge (Part 262591 for 4-line tubing) to confirm the handpiece is running within its intended range rather than assuming the delivery unit is correctly calibrated.

2	Log service history. DENTALEZ publishes a handpiece log book track cleaning, filtration checks, and any part replacements over the life of each unit.

3	Recheck warranty registration. Especially after a turbine or swivel replacement, since the 2-year turbine warranty begins on the date of insertion and requires registration within 12 months.

Storage Between Uses

Store handpieces in their sterilization bag until the next use rather than left exposed on an open tray.
Keep FX and SW units, and autochuck vs. manual chuck versions, clearly identified if your practice runs more than one configuration.

Mistakes That Shorten Handpiece Life

Ultrasonic cleaning the turbine. The single most damaging documented mistake for this specific handpiece it dilutes the sealed bearing lubricant.
Soaking the turbine in solvent. Same underlying problem as above solvent breaks down the lubricant the sealed bearings depend on.
Letting water filtration drift below spec. DENTALEZ's 25-micron filtration recommendation exists specifically to protect the spray system and internal components.
Skipping air pressure checks. Incorrect delivery-unit pressure is a common, avoidable cause of premature turbine wear.
Letting registration lapse. A turbine outside its registration window loses warranty protection even if it's otherwise sound.

Extending the Life of Your StarSimplicity

StarSimplicity's 2-year turbine warranty reflects genuine confidence in the design but that confidence assumes normal care, not ultrasonic cleaning or solvent exposure. What Practices Are Saying

“We almost put our StarSimplicity turbines through the ultrasonic cleaner along with everything else until we actually read the manual. Glad we caught that before it became an expensive habit.” — Sterilization Lead, Group Dental Practice

“Adding a monthly pressure check with the gauge instead of just eyeballing it made a real difference in how consistent our handpieces feel.” — Dental Assistant, Family Practice

Frequently Asked Questions

Q Can I run a StarSimplicity turbine through an ultrasonic cleaner?

A No. DENTALEZ's instructions explicitly warn against this the turbine's bearings are lubricated and sealed, and ultrasonic cleaning or solvent immersion dilutes that lubricant.

Q What water filtration does StarSimplicity require?

A DENTALEZ specifies 25-micron filtration for air and water supplies, along with softened, deionized water.

Q How often should I check air pressure?

A DENTALEZ provides a specific air pressure gauge (Part 262591) for 4-line tubing and handpieces checking it periodically, not just when troubleshooting a problem, helps catch drift before it causes wear.
