The Titan system's LubeFree design removes one maintenance task most low-speed handpieces still require. It doesn't remove the rest. Sterilization discipline, air-pressure checks, and knowing your specific motor and angle configuration are what keep this modular system running the way DENTALEZ designed it to.

Know Your Components Before You Start

The Titan system separates into motor, angle, and swivel and DENTALEZ documents each with its own part number and care requirements

DENTALEZ's own Titan motor instructions state it directly: if your delivery unit has oil/mist lubrication, detach and drain it the Titan motor needs no lubrication. This is a documented instruction, not a general assumption about LubeFree design.

Before First Use and Between Patients

Clean and sterilize the motor before first use and between every patient use DENTALEZ's instructions are explicit that this applies to the motor itself, not just the angle or attachment.

Reprocess as soon as reasonably practical following use, rather than letting handpieces sit uncleaned between appointments.

Sterilization: The Official DENTALEZ Protocol

DENTALEZ's Titan motor instructions are specific about method not every sterilization approach is appropriate for this system.

Use steam sterilization exclusively. DENTALEZ's documentation calls for steam sterilization for complete sterility of the Titan motor.

Washer-disinfectors are not recommended. This is stated directly in the official instructions don't run the motor through a washer-disinfector cycle.

Dry using syringe air. Both before packaging and as part of routine care, DENTALEZ specifies syringe air for drying rather than air-drying passively.

Use standard sterilization packaging. Bag sized large enough to contain the item without stressing the seals.

Air Pressure: A Maintenance Check, Not Just a Repair Step

DENTALEZ's instructions call for checking drive-air pressure before installing the motor, not only when troubleshooting a problem:

Use an air pressure gauge (4/6-line) between the swivel and tubing.

Adjust air pressure at the delivery head until the gauge reads 40–45 psi while operating the motor in full forward position with the foot control depressed.

Recheck periodically as part of routine maintenance, since drift in delivery-unit pressure is a documented cause of bearing damage over time not just a symptom to chase after something breaks.

Weekly and Periodic Care

DENTALEZ's instructions call for routinely checking the motor for corrosion and worn parts, and replacing it when warranted rather than continuing to run a visibly degraded motor.

Storage Between Uses

Store components dry and packaged after sterilization rather than left exposed on an open tray.

Keep LubeFree and Lubricated angles clearly separated and labeled to avoid an accidental care-routine mix-up.

Mistakes That Shorten System Life

Running the motor through a washer-disinfector. Explicitly not recommended in DENTALEZ's own instructions.

Leaving oil/mist lubrication connected. If your delivery unit has it, DENTALEZ instructs you to detach and drain it the Titan motor doesn't use it.

Ignoring drive-air pressure until something stalls. DENTALEZ frames the 40–45 psi check as a routine step, not just a troubleshooting one.

Mixing LubeFree and Lubricated angle care. These are documented as separate, non-interchangeable configurations.

Skipping the corrosion check. Motors should be routinely inspected and replaced when worn not run until they fail outright.Print Your Free Shipping Label Today

Extending the Life of Your Star Titan System

Because the Titan system is modular, consistent care on each piece motor, angle, and swivel matters more than treating it as a single unit. For the warning signs that show up when this routine slips, see our companion piece, the Star Titan Common Problems & Troubleshooting Guide, and our general dental handpiece repair and maintenance service overview.

What Practices Are Saying

“We didn't realize the washer-disinfector was technically off-limits for the motor until we actually read the manual. Small thing, glad we caught it early.” — Sterilization Lead, Group Dental Practice

“Adding the pressure check to our weekly routine instead of only checking when something felt off has made our motors last noticeably longer.” — Practice Manager, Family Dental Clinic

Frequently Asked Questions

Q Does the Titan motor need lubrication?

A No. DENTALEZ's own instructions state the motor needs no lubrication, and specifically direct you to detach and drain any oil/mist lubrication line from your delivery unit if present.

Q Can I sterilize the Titan motor in a washer-disinfector?

A No. DENTALEZ's instructions explicitly state washer-disinfectors are not recommended for this system use steam sterilization exclusively.

Q How often should I check drive-air pressure?

A DENTALEZ specifies checking pressure before installing the motor, and it's worth rechecking periodically as routine maintenance rather than only when troubleshooting a problem.

Q Are LubeFree and Lubricated angles cared for the same way?

A No. DENTALEZ documents them as separate part numbers and configurations keep them labeled and don't mix their care routines
