W&H Alegra WE-56 T Troubleshooting: Match the Symptom to the Right Next Step

When a W&H Alegra WE-56 T starts behaving strangely, don't start by asking:

“Which part is broken?”

Start with:

“What exactly changed?”

That small difference can prevent unnecessary part assumptions and help determine whether the problem is the bur, routine care, connection, or the handpiece itself.

The WE-56 T Symptom Map

Use this table as your starting point:

Symptom	First thing to check	If it continues
Bur feels different	Try a known-good compatible bur	Investigate chuck/handpiece
New vibration	Compare different burs	Arrange assessment
New sound	Compare with normal operation	Consider professional inspection
Increased heat	Stop unnecessary testing	Request assessment
Intermittent performance	Note when it occurs	Provide pattern to technician
Problem returns after maintenance	Review care routine	Consider repair

This isn't a substitute for professional diagnosis. It's a way to avoid jumping to conclusions.

Scenario 1: “It Only Happens With One Bur”

This is the easiest situation to investigate.

Remove the bur and check it for:

damage,
contamination,
unusual wear,
incorrect dimensions.

Then test a known-good compatible bur.

Problem disappears?

Investigate the original bur.

Problem remains?

The WE-56 T itself becomes more relevant.

If you're unsure about the next step, the W&H Alegra Contra-Angle Troubleshooting Guide gives you a broader troubleshooting reference.

Scenario 2: “The Handpiece Vibrates”

Don't immediately label the vibration as a specific internal failure.

First ask:

Does it happen with more than one compatible bur?

If yes, note whether the vibration is:

mild or strong,
continuous or intermittent,
getting worse,
accompanied by unusual sound,
accompanied by heat.

Vibration + another symptom

That combination is more important than vibration alone. If vibration persists across different burs, consider stopping clinical use and requesting professional W&H handpiece repair.

Scenario 3: “It Sounds Different”

This is where people often make a mistake. They hear a new sound and immediately search for a replacement part.

Instead, document the sound.

Ask:

When did it start?
Is it constant?
Is it getting louder?
Does it occur with different burs?
Is vibration also present?

If the answer to several questions is yes, the symptom deserves professional attention.

Scenario 4: “It Gets Hot”

Heat should not be assessed in isolation.

Look for combinations:

Heat + vibration

Heat + unusual sound

Heat + increased resistance

These combinations make continued testing less useful.

If the WE-56 T is becoming noticeably hotter than its normal operating condition, contact Repair.Dental through WhatsApp or chat and explain the complete symptom pattern.

Scenario 5: “Maintenance Helped—Then the Problem Came Back”

This is a particularly useful troubleshooting clue.

Imagine:

Monday: unusual sound

Tuesday: maintenance

Wednesday: sound seems normal

Thursday: unusual sound returns

Don't automatically conclude that the maintenance needs to be repeated. The recurrence may indicate that the underlying problem hasn't been addressed.

Review the W&H Alegra Contra-Angle Maintenance Guide.

If the symptom continues, move toward professional inspection and use the W&H Alegra Contra-Angle Repair Guide for repair-related guidance.

The “Stop or Continue?” Test

Situation	Continue troubleshooting?
Problem only with one damaged bur	Yes
Minor external contamination	Yes
New persistent vibration	No—consider assessment
New noise + vibration	No—arrange assessment
Increasing heat	Stop unnecessary testing
Repeated problem after maintenance	Consider repair
Unreliable performance during procedures	Remove from clinical use

This is the point where troubleshooting should become a decision—not an endless experiment.

What Information Should Go Into the Request Form?

Don't just write:

“WE-56 T not working properly.”

Instead provide:

Model: W&H Alegra WE-56 T

Problem: New vibration and rough sound

When noticed: During today's procedure

Bur test: Tested with another compatible bur

Other symptoms: Slight increase in heat

Maintenance: Routine maintenance performed, symptom returned

That gives the technician a useful starting point.

If the symptom is persistent, submit a W&H handpiece repair request with these details.

Don't Turn Troubleshooting Into Risk

There is a difference between checking a simple external issue and repeatedly operating a handpiece that is showing multiple warning signs.

Stop unnecessary testing when you have:

persistent vibration,
unusual mechanical noise,
increasing heat,
unreliable bur retention,
or progressively worsening performance.

For general handling reminders, see Simple Do's and Don'ts for Handpiece Care.

If you still aren't sure whether the WE-56 T needs repair, contact Repair.Dental through WhatsApp or chat and describe the symptoms.

The Rule to Remember

One symptom → investigate.

Repeated symptom → document.

Multiple symptoms → stop unnecessary testing.

Persistent problem → arrange professional assessment.

That approach helps protect the handpiece, the clinician's workflow and the practice from an avoidable surprise during treatment.
