W&H Synea Fusion WG-67 A Maintenance: Build a Routine Around the Tip and Drive

The W&H Synea Fusion WG-67 A has a very different job from a standard rotary contra-angle. Its Profin® reciprocating mechanism is designed for controlled movement with a 1.1 mm stroke, using Dentatus tips. W&H lists a 2:1 transmission, single spray and ISO 3964 motor connection, with a maximum motor speed of 20,000 rpm. That means good maintenance is not just about making the outside of the handpiece look clean.

It is about protecting the relationship between:

tip → retention → reciprocating mechanism → lubrication → spray → connection

When those areas are maintained consistently, abnormal changes are easier to spot.

Think in Terms of a Five-Minute Handoff

Instead of leaving maintenance to whoever happens to pick up the instrument next, give the WG-67 A a simple handoff routine.

 Performance

 Does movement feel normal?

This creates something valuable: a baseline.

Without a baseline, staff often notice a problem only after performance has already deteriorated.

1. Treat Tips as Working Components

The Dentatus tip is not an afterthought.

A damaged or worn tip can change the way the instrument performs and may make the handpiece appear to have a mechanical problem.

Before use:

	Check the tip condition.

	Confirm correct compatibility.

	Ensure it is properly seated.

Do not use damaged or questionable tips.

Avoid forcing the tip into position.

If the handpiece suddenly feels different, test with an appropriate known-good tip before assuming the internal mechanism has failed.

This is also one reason why common handpiece maintenance mistakes are worth reviewing with staff. Small handling habits can gradually affect chuck and internal component condition.

2. Keep the Retention Area Clean

The area around the tip connection deserves attention after clinical use. Material buildup can interfere with normal tip seating and make a mechanical system feel different. Follow W&H's model-specific cleaning and reprocessing instructions rather than improvising with sharp instruments or aggressive cleaning methods. The goal is not to force contamination out at any cost. The goal is to clean without damaging the mechanism.

3. Lubricate With a Process, Not a Guess

One of the easiest maintenance mistakes is treating lubrication as an occasional rescue procedure. Lubrication should be part of a consistent maintenance process and should follow the manufacturer's instructions for the instrument and approved lubricant.

Repair.Dental's handpiece lubrication guide provides practical background on proper lubrication.

Its lubrication systems and best-practices guide also covers the importance of correct application rather than simply adding more oil.

If the WG-67 A is still noisy or rough after proper maintenance, don't keep increasing lubrication.

That is a diagnostic clue, not an invitation to use more lubricant.

4. Watch the Spray

The WG-67 A uses a single spray. A change in spray should be noticed early because cooling performance matters during use.

If the spray looks weaker than usual:

Check → clean according to instructions → verify the external water supply → retest.

If the problem continues, document it.

A recurring spray issue can originate from the handpiece, connection, or dental unit.

If you're unsure where the problem is coming from, contact Repair.Dental through chat or WhatsApp and explain what you have observed.

5. Pay Attention to How It Feels

This is where maintenance and troubleshooting overlap. Before the instrument goes back into regular clinical use, ask:

Does the reciprocating movement feel normal?

You don't need to dismantle the handpiece to answer that.

A clinician who uses the instrument frequently can often notice:

	more vibration

	a rougher movement

	a new sound

	unusual resistance

	increased heat

	reduced effectiveness

These changes should be recorded rather than ignored.

What Not to Do

Avoid turning maintenance into experimentation.

Do not:

	force tips into position

	use incompatible tips

	apply excessive lubricant

	use unapproved cleaning methods

	ignore a new mechanical sound

keep operating a handpiece that becomes unusually hot

attempt internal repairs without appropriate authorization and expertise

W&H's instructions direct repair and maintenance work to authorized service partners.

When a mechanical problem has appeared, use a professional W&H handpiece repair service rather than attempting an internal fix at the chairside.

A Simple End-of-Day Record

For a busy practice, maintenance documentation does not need to be complicated.

Record:

Model: WG-67 A

Tip condition: Good / replace

Movement: Normal / changed

Sound: Normal / changed

Spray: Normal / changed

Action: Returned to service / sent for assessment

This takes very little time but can reveal patterns.

If the same handpiece keeps developing the same problem, that's useful information for a technician.

When Maintenance Should Become a Service Call

Routine care is preventative.

It is not a substitute for repair.

Move from maintenance to professional service if the WG-67 A develops persistent vibration, abnormal noise, tip-retention problems, excessive heat, or a change in reciprocating performance.

Repair.Dental's W&H repair service provides professional assessment for W&H contra-angle problems.

You can submit a repair request or use WhatsApp/chat to explain the symptoms before sending the handpiece.

The goal is simple:

maintain it while it is healthy, and service it when it tells you something has changed.
