W&H Synea Vision WK-99 LT S Problems & Troubleshooting

The W&H Synea Vision WK-99 LT S is a 1:5 speed-increasing Short Edition contra-angle handpiece. It is designed with a compact form factor, five-fold spray, push-button chuck, FG bur compatibility, and a compact glass rod.

When performance changes, troubleshooting should begin with simple external causes before assuming that an internal repair is required. For an overview of the Synea range and its design features, see Synea Straight and Contra-angle Handpieces.

Common WK-99 LT S Problems

Common symptoms include:

Unusual noise
Excessive vibration
Overheating
Bur slipping
Push-button problems
Weak spray
Reduced light
Rough rotation
Poor cutting performance
Compatibility problems with the motor

WK-99 LT S Is Making Unusual Noise

A change in sound can be an early indication of a mechanical problem.

First check:

Is the bur suitable and undamaged?
Is the bur properly seated?
Does the noise remain with another appropriate bur?
Does the noise increase with speed?

If abnormal noise continues, bearing or internal transmission wear may need to be investigated. For additional guidance on identifying symptoms associated with bearing problems, see Dental Handpiece Losing Power? Bearing Failure Signs.

WK-99 LT S Is Vibrating

Excessive vibration may result from:

Damaged bur
Improper bur seating
Chuck wear
Bearing wear
Internal mechanical damage

Start by checking the bur and its retention.

If vibration remains, stop using the handpiece and arrange professional W&H handpiece repair.

WK-99 LT S Is Overheating

Excessive heat can be associated with inadequate cooling or mechanical problems.

Check:

Spray performance
Water supply
Spray openings
Handpiece connection
Unusual mechanical noise

If the handpiece remains excessively hot, discontinue use and have it professionally inspected.

The Bur Is Slipping

The WK-99 LT S uses a push-button chuck for FG burs with a 1.6 mm shaft.

If the bur slips:

Remove the handpiece from use.
Check the bur for damage.
Confirm that the bur is appropriate.
Ensure that it is properly inserted.
If retention remains unreliable, arrange chuck inspection.

Do not continue treatment with an insecure bur.

The Push Button Is Difficult to Operate

A stiff, loose, or inconsistent push button may indicate contamination or mechanical wear.

Do not force the button. Follow the normal manufacturer maintenance procedure and arrange professional service if the problem remains.

The Spray Is Weak

The WK-99 LT S has five-fold spray cooling.

Check:

Water supply
Handpiece connection
Spray openings
Visible contamination
Spray pattern

If the problem continues after basic checks, the handpiece may require professional service.

The Light Is Weak

The WK-99 LT S uses a compact glass rod.

Reduced illumination may be caused by:

Contamination
Damage to the optical surface
Connection problems
Internal optical issues

Inspect the optical area carefully and avoid abrasive cleaning materials.

Quick Troubleshooting Table

Problem	Possible Cause	First Check
Loud noise	Bur, bearing, transmission	Check bur
Vibration	Bur, chuck, bearing	Check bur seating
Overheating	Poor spray, friction, wear	Check cooling
Bur slipping	Chuck or bur problem	Check bur retention
Weak spray	Blockage or water supply	Check spray openings
Weak light	Optical contamination/damage	Inspect glass rod
Poor cutting	Bur, cooling, mechanical wear	Check bur and spray
Rough rotation	Bearing/transmission issue	Stop and inspect
Motor incompatibility	Coupling dimensions	Check ISO coupling

When to Stop Using the WK-99 LT S

Stop using the handpiece if you notice:

Severe vibration
Grinding or rattling
Excessive heat
Unreliable bur retention
Significant performance loss
Persistent mechanical noise
Repeated problems after maintenance

Professional diagnosis is safer than continuing to operate a handpiece with a suspected mechanical fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my WK-99 LT S vibrating?

Possible causes include bur problems, chuck wear, bearing deterioration, or internal mechanical wear.

Why is my WK-99 LT S overheating?

Check the spray and water supply first. Persistent overheating can indicate mechanical friction or internal component wear.

Why is my bur slipping?

Check the bur and its seating. If the problem continues, the push-button chuck may require professional inspection.

Why is the spray weak?

Check the dental unit water supply, connection, and spray openings. Persistent problems may require handpiece service.

Why does my WK-99 LT S not fit my motor?

The Short Edition has a specific motor compatibility requirement. W&H specifies an ISO coupling measuring no longer than 23 mm.

When should I send the WK-99 LT S for repair?

Arrange professional service when abnormal noise, vibration, overheating, chuck problems, rough rotation, or other persistent faults remain after basic checks.
