Air Techniques has built a reputation for pioneering some of the most reliable utility room equipment in dentistry. From the classic reliability of the VacStar Wet Vacuum series to the advanced, water-free engineering of the Mojave Dry Vacuum, these machines are designed for maximum runtime. However, when electronic errors trigger or an internal seal fails, a loss of system pressure can quickly compromise your practice workflow.

At repair.dental, our field technicians are expertly trained to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize all generations of Air Techniques vacuum units.

Common Air Techniques Failures We Resolve Daily

VFD / Inverter Overheating Errors (Mojave Series): The smart Variable Frequency Drive on the Mojave system can trip out with thermal faults if the utility room lacks proper ventilation, or if the unit's dedicated cooling fan fails. We swap out failing cooling fans and recalibrate drive modules on-site.
Stuck or Leaking Vacuum Relief Valves: If your VacStar or Mojave system runs continuously but fails to build negative pressure, a worn or dirty vacuum relief valve is often stuck wide open, constantly bleeding ambient room air into the line. We clean, rebuild, or replace these critical valves.
Water Solenoid Scale Blockages (VacStar Series): Wet-ring VacStar models depend on a precise, metered stream of water to create an internal pump seal. Mineral deposits from hard water can clog the internal solenoid valves, starving the system of water and destroying your chairside suction. We clear line blockages and install high-durability replacement solenoids.
Degraded Separation Tank Gaskets: Moisture bypasses and air leaks frequently occur when the primary gaskets on the air-water separation canister dry out and crack. This causes the pump to draw outside air, dropping your vacuum levels well below the required 10" Hg minimum.
Enzymatic Sludge & Clogged Check Valves: Failing to use a non-foaming, enzymatic cleanser leads to chemical residue hardening inside your internal check valves. This prevents the valves from closing properly, causing suction loss in your furthest operatories. We perform deep system flushes and mechanical valve overhauls.

Air Techniques Preventative Maintenance Checklist

Follow this routine checklist to protect your utility room investment and keep your suction running at peak performance.

📅 Daily Maintenance

[ ] Flush Suction Lines: Flush all high-volume evacuator (HVE) and saliva ejector lines at the end of every day using a non-foaming, enzymatic line cleaner.
⚠️ Critical Note: Never use standard commercial bleach or foaming detergents. Foaming agents will bypass the separation tank and destroy the internal turbine heads of your Mojave or VacStar pumps.

[ ] Clean Operatory Solids Collectors: Empty and clean out the chairside solids collector baskets in every treatment room to keep baseline airflow clear.

📅 Weekly Maintenance

[ ] Inspect and Clean Main Canister Filter: Locate the main solids collector canister in your utility room (before the pump unit). Safely isolate the vacuum, open the canister, and replace or clean the internal mesh basket.
[ ] Check System Gauge Pressure: Verify that your Air Techniques vacuum gauge reads between 10" Hg and 12" Hg during normal clinic operations. Anything below 9" Hg requires professional line calibration.

📅 Monthly Maintenance

[ ] Inspect Utility Room Ventilation: Check around your Mojave or VacStar motor chassis. Ensure there is at least 12 inches of clearance around the units and that utility room vents are completely free of dust. Poor ventilation triggers VFD thermal overload shutdowns.
[ ] Test Moisture Separation Drainage: For dry vacuum configurations, visually verify that the automated drain valve on the air-water separation tank operates smoothly and doesn't show signs of leakage or internal sludge buildup.

Regular Maintenance Benefits

📉 Complete Elimination of Sudden Operational Downtime

When a dental vacuum experiences a catastrophic failure, your clinic stops instantly. Hygiene bays stall, surgical procedures cannot be performed safely, and you are forced to reschedule patients. Regular maintenance catches worn carbon vanes, clogged water solenoids, and leaking seals before they trigger a total mid-day clinic shutdown.

💰 Significant Extension of Equipment Lifespan

Dental vacuum units—whether a premium Air Techniques Mojave, a rugged Midmark PowerVac, or a high-performance Dürr system—are substantial capital investments. Forcing a pump to run constantly against blocked lines or with failing ventilation fans strains the motor windings, causing premature burnout. Routine tune-ups ensure your equipment runs smoothly for years, maximizing your initial investment.

🚀 Consistent, High-Power Chairside Suction

There is nothing more frustrating for a dental assistant or clinician than working with sluggish, weak suction at the high-volume evacuator (HVE) tips. Regular line purges, filter replacements, and relief valve calibrations maintain a steady, uniform vacuum pressure across every operatory in your building—even during peak clinic hours when every chair is occupied.

🛡️ Guaranteed Environmental and Regulatory Compliance

Modern dental vacuum systems are directly integrated with your wastewater lines and amalgam separation blocks. Excessive line backpressure or a malfunctioning internal separation centrifuge can lead to structural leaks or mechanical breaches, putting your clinic at risk of failing local EPA and environmental safety inspections. Regular maintenance guarantees your system stays completely compliant.

Why Choose Us for Your Air Technique Vacuum Support?

Advanced Digital Troubleshooting: We don't guess or swap parts blindly. Our technicians can extract active fault codes and analyze system telemetry directly from your Mojave or VacStar digital control boards to fix the root cause on the first visit.
100% Genuine Factory OEM Parts: Air Techniques units rely on precise pressure tolerances. We stock our service vehicles with authentic factory parts—including official filter assemblies, custom check valves, and OEM sensor units—keeping your equipment warranty completely safe.
Simultaneous Multi-Chair Calibrations: Fixes are validated under real clinical stress. We check the standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) airflow metrics across all treatment rooms simultaneously to ensure a rock-solid, uniform draw during your busiest clinical hours.
Rapid Revenue Protection: A down utility room stalls your team and cuts your production. We treat vacuum failures as high-priority emergencies, offering rapid dispatch times to get your suction back to full power before your daily schedule falls behind.
