Common Faults: Dentsply Phosphor Imaging System Units

Understanding these frequent issues helps set expectations for your diagnostic and repair services.

Common Fault	Symptoms	Primary Cause	Dentists' Pain Points
Optical Mirror Contamination	Vertical or horizontal white lines across digital X-rays.	Dust, hair, or powder debris settling on the internal laser line block or mirror assembly.	Compromised diagnostics: Obscured pathology requires immediate re-shoots, irritating patients and slowing down hygiene appointments.
Laser Diode Degradation	Faded, grainy, or low-contrast images that lack clinical sharpness.	Laser diode reaching its end-of-life or dropping in power output over extended use.	Diagnostic uncertainty: Difficulty identifying micro-cavities or early bone loss, leading to a loss of clinical confidence.
Transport Roller Wear	Plates getting jammed mid-scan, or physical crinkling/tearing of the plates.	Internal rubber feed rollers hardening, losing grip, or accumulating residue over time.	High overhead costs: Destroys expensive phosphor plates instantly and creates sudden, stressful bottlenecks in the daily schedule.
Sidexis Software Disconnection	"Scanner not found" errors or sudden communication drops mid-processing.	Damaged physical USB/Ethernet ports or IP conflicts on the network (frequent after Windows updates).	Total workflow standstill: Complete breakdown in communication between the operatory PCs and the central processing unit.
Erase Assembly Failure	"Ghosting" or double exposures where previous anatomy is visible on new scans.	Burned-out high-intensity LED erase strips or a malfunctioning erase driver board.	Wasted chair time: Radiographs are completely unreadable, forcing staff to retake exposures and ruining the patient experience.
Micro-Switch Failure	Scanner does not activate or pull the plate in when inserted into the slot.	Faulty position sensors or physical debris blocking the mechanical entry trigger.	Emergency disruptions: Staff are forced to hunt for alternative intraoral sensors or delay critical diagnostic decisions.
PMT Sensor Instability	Random image artifacts or highly unpredictable contrast levels between scans.	Photomultiplier Tube (PMT) calibration drift or internal power supply fluctuations.	Inconsistent results: Intermittent imaging issues that damage trust with associated labs and reference specialists.

Customer Testimonials

"The Only Team That Actually Fixes Component-Level Defects"

"When our Dentsply unit suffered a complete erase assembly failure, our hygiene schedule ground to a halt. Other service companies just wanted to swap out the entire mainboard for an astronomical price. Repair.Dental diagnosed a failed driver circuit on the lightboard, replaced the specific components, and had it shipped back to us in under a week. Fast, transparent, and highly technical." — Practice Manager, Downtown Dental Group

"Saved Us From a $7,000 Manufacturer Replacement"

"Our Dentsply scanner started rejecting half of our size 2 plates and throwing continuous transport errors. The distributor told us parts were no longer supported and tried to push a brand-new system on us. Repair.Dental completely rebuilt the internal feed track and replaced the worn transport rollers. The machine works like it did on day one, and they saved our practice thousands." — Dr. Aris T., DDS

Comprehensive Maintenance Schedule

To prevent emergency downtime, we recommend the following service intervals for your Dentsply Sirona phosphor imaging system:

Interval	Action Item	Importance
Daily	Wipe down the entry slot and sanitize protective covers; inspect plates for deep scratches.	Prevents artifacts on radiographs and protects internal rollers from contamination.
Weekly	Clean the imaging plates using approved PSP cleaning wipes.	Removes fingerprints, dust, and smudges that mimic pathology on X-rays.
Monthly	Run an erase cycle on all plates; inspect the internal transport path with a flashlight for debris.	Eliminates ghost images from cumulative background radiation and prevents plate jams.
Annually	Professional Service (repair.dental): Internal laser optical cleaning, roller kit replacement, and drive path calibration.	Prevents vertical line artifacts and extends the life of the scanner assembly.

What Our "Repair Guru" Guarantee Means

"At repair.dental, we believe a repair isn't finished until the machine passes a full 'Master Calibration' test. We don't just swap parts; we restore the precision that Dentsply is famous for."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you repair older Dentsply models?

A: Yes! While the manufacturer may have ended official "life-of-product" support, we maintain a deep inventory of legacy parts to keep your reliable workhorses in production.

Q: Do you offer on-site repairs, or do I have to ship my machine?

A: Both options are available. We can send a technician to your clinic in major cities, or you can ship your machine to our repair center for more complex repairs.

Q: Will my machine need recalibration after a repair?

A: Absolutely. Every repair at repair.dental includes a full kinematic calibration.

At repair.dental, we don’t just see a machine; we see the heart of your digital workflow. We know that behind every imaging unit is a patient waiting and a practice striving for excellence. Our mission is to bridge the gap between technical failure and clinical success with transparency, and unmatched expertise.

When you trust us with your Dentsply equipment, you aren't just getting a mechanic—you're gaining a partner dedicated to your uptime. Don't let a "down" machine dictate your schedule. Let the Gurus get you back to the chair.
