The most common reason sensors get distorted or do not work to their highest efficacy is not storing your sensor properly. Busy practices and high patient flow result in poor handling and storing of x-ray sensors. Here are a few tips to properly keep & store your digital X-ray sensors-

1. Keep them clean:

Every manufacturer provides instructions on how to clean your sensor. It is recommended to follow manufacturer instructions to clean and disinfect your sensor. If the manufacturer's instructions are not understood, it is suggested to clean and remove debris using a soft cloth to wipe using isopropyl alcohol.

2. Storage:

The mistake most practitioners make is keeping the sensor coiled in a small box or basket with all other equipment, Which is not the right way to store your sensor. Some dentists wrap sensors around the dental chair arm in between operations or hang it on the wall with wire touching the floor. These practices can damage your sensor. So far, the best way to keep your sensor in between operations is to mount the sensor holder high on the wall and hang the sensors there.

3. Always unplug your sensor when not in use:

When a sensor is plugged or connected to the system, it is typically always on and communicating with the computer. It can cause damage to the sensor.

4. Holder:

It is suggested to use sensor holders while taking x-rays.It prevents patients from biting on the sensors and ensures that the sensor and cable are placed in the right place in the patient's mouth.

5. Protect your sensors from extreme temperatures:

Extreme hot or cold temperatures can damage the sensor. Avoid keeping them in places with extreme high/low temperatures.

6. Store them in protective cases:

Single-use plastic covers are available in every size to fit your sensor. It is recommended to cover your sensor while using and storing.
